Welcome to Christ Church, Brittany

New Beginnings
It has been a long wait, three and a half years to be exact, but at last we were able to welcome our new Chaplain, the Rev David McLeod, at his service of Licensing, installation and Commissioning on Sunday 23rd June 2024 at our church in Ploërmel. The Venerable Dr Peter Hooper Presided at this wonderful and joyful service with almost 90 people sharing in the welcome, which also included David’s Commissioning as the Area Dean for Northwest France, a newly created post in the Diocese of Europe. David was accompanied by wife Sue and daughter Lucy, and we were also delighted to welcome David’s parents to this wonderful occasion. We were also really pleased to be able to welcome a number of the Frères de Lamennais to the service, the Brothers who have supported us enormously since the very early days of Christ Church Brittany. All four worship centres were well represented as well as members from some of the other Chaplaincies in the Northwest France Deanery.
An added bonus was that once
David had been Licensed and Installed as our new Chaplain he took the
opportunity to carry out the formal Admission of the two Churchwardens, Janet
Lageveen and Alistair Hugonnet, who were elected to the Office at the recent Annual
Chaplaincy Meeting for Christ Church Brittany.
The service was followed by a
truly delightful shared lunch, with an enormous selection of treats on offer
and which allowed plenty of time for David and Archdeacon Peter to meet and
chat to many of the congregation and visitors who attended as well as an
opportunity for fellowship amongst us all.
The Licensing and Installation of David also allowed the Acting Chaplain, the Rev Jeremy Cross, to step down from the role into retirement, or so he hopes, and a tremendous vote of thanks goes to Jeremy for taking on this role for the third time!
Finally, a word of grateful thanks to Archdeacon Peter for his visit and for the installation of David as our new Chaplain. We have shared with him a number of trials and delays along before we were able appoint a new Chaplain, but it has been a truly wonderful experience to share in the witness of so many of God’s blessings and to see God’s hand on so much of what came to pass that has led to David’s appointment. We are looking forward with great excitement to watching God’s plans unfold over the coming years for Christ Church here in Brittany.
